| LITTLE ROCK LAST TERM MAYOR MARK STODOLA LEADS THE MOVEMENT TO BAN RAP MUSIC |
In an unprecedented move, Mayor Mark Stodola and the Little Rock Board of Directors will vote next week on an ordinance that will ban rap music.
This action was in
response to the mayor and the board finding out that Little Rock police Chief Kenton
Tremar Buckner had worked out a deal, without advising the Board of
Directors, to provide extra security measures for a rap concert set for
October 13th at the iHeartMedia Metroplex.
City leaders spooked by events from the July mass shooting at the Power Lounge had been looking at ways to prevent similar events from occurring and the only thing that they could agree upon to deal with the matter was to make a total and complete ban of rap music within the city limits.
The proposed ordinance would make playing, listening or talking about rap music illegal withing the city limits of the capital city.
There is also a proposed prohibition of any clothing that encourages a rap lifestyle.
Not being able to charge any suspects in the July mass shooting and the fact that another rap concert being held on Friday the 13th was too much for a superstitious Mayor Stodola to deal with prompting him to seek legal action to halt the rap concert.
Threats of a lawsuit by the city caused the promoter to cancel the concert.
Requests for interviews were declined by the Mayor and members of the Board of Director's who are reported to have been placed under police protection in a hotel in North Little Rock until the next board meeting.
