Overpass named for City Director in compensation for being denied Vice Mayor slot for two years in a row

A newly constructed overpass was named after Little Rock Ward 2 City Director Ken Richardson as compensation for his being denied the Vice Mayor position two years in a row.

The Little Rock City Board of Directors has an unwritten policy that the director that has never held the Vice Mayor position is selected by other board members to fill the position.

Richardson has never held that position and was snubbed in 2020 when Ward 7 Director B.J. Wyrick was chosen to be Vice Mayor.

And again this year when Ward 5 Director Lance Hines was selected.

So LR Mayor Franks Scott, Jr. issued an Executive Order naming the overpass after Richardson to "help ease the pain" of the institutional racism at City Hall.
